The Mailing List Data Analyser

This short tutorial will introduce you to some of the functions and features required to use the Mailing List data analyser. To continue, please click 'Next'.

The Mailing List Data Analyser

The data analyser allows you to find sites and people in our database that match your specified criteria. You will then be able to license this data to use for marketing, research or any other purpose.

Main Option Selectors

Click these large tabs to switch between different types of selection criteria. The currently selected tab is highlighted in blue

Sub-selectors

Click these smaller tabs to see different selection options. These will allow you to fine tune your selection criteria.

Main Selection Pane

This area contains the main criteria selectors. It will change depending on your currently selected tabs.

Price Information

This area shows pricing information for the currently visible selection pane.

Analysis Results Header

Shows the reference number and revision of your current analysis. If more than one revision is avaliable (indicated by a clock icon) you can view a list of revisions and switch between them by clicking here.

Analysis Description

Enter some text here to give your analysis an easy-to-remember name. This may also be done by clicking your analysis name or reference number on your Previous Analyses page

Results Pane

Shows your results upon analysis completion and displays many other important messages.

Start Analysis

Runs your analysis based on the criteria you have selected. Once you have run an analysis it will be saved on your Previous Analyses page. Remember, the analysis itself is completely free!

Show Criteria

Displays a table showing the currently selected criteria that would be used if you ran the analysis.

Download Now

Takes your straight to the purchase page. Here you can license and download the data set you have just analysed (only avaliable upon analysis completion).

View Report

Shows a detailed report of sites and contacts in your analysis (only avaliable upon analysis completion).

Region Help

  • Selecting one or more regions will return sites from those regions.
  • We do not recommend selections where you combine multiple Geography tabs which limit results (by requiring all regions, counties, towns and postcodes to be met).
  • Click the and icons to expand or collapse the layers of search detail.
  • Selecting a tickable box automatically selects its sub-areas.
  • Use select/deselect/invert to perform bulk selection operations:
    • Select - Selects every region (i.e. the whole of the UK).
    • Deselect - Deselects all currently selected.
    • Invert - Reverses selected/not selected.

County Help

  • Selecting one or more counties returns sites from those counties.

  • Once you have selected a town it will appear under the search box. You will then be able to select an optional distance from the town to expand your search.
  • Click the small next to the town name to deselect it.
  • Town selection is a free option.

Postcode Help

  • Selecting one or more postcodes returns sites from those postcodes.
  • We do not recommend selections where you combine multiple Geography tabs which limit results (by requiring all regions, counties, towns and postcodes to be met).
  • Type in the search box to search for postcodes or postcode areas. Click the large to clear your search.
  • Click on a postcode or postcode area, or use the arrow and enter keys to select it.
  • Once you have selected a postcode or postcode area it will appear under the search box.
    • For individual postcodes you must enter a distance from the postcode to expand your search.
    • For larger postcode areas you may enter an optional distance to expand your search.
    • For large postcode areas you will not be able to enter a distance to expand your search.
  • Click the small next to the postcode to deselect it.
  • Postcode selection is a free option.

SIC Code Help

  • Selecting one or more SIC codes returns sites whose main activity matches those SIC codes.
  • All SIC codes in out database are the latest 2007 versions.
  • Click the and icons to expand or collapse the layers of search detail.
  • Selecting a tickable box automatically selects its sub-codes.
  • Use select/deselect/invert to perform bulk selection operations:
    • Select - Selects every region (i.e. all sites in out databse that have SIC code data).
    • Deselect - Deselects all currently selected.
    • Invert - Reverses selected/not selected.
  • SIC code selection is a free option.

Industry Type Help

  • Selecting one or more industry types returns sites whose main activity matches those industry types.
  • Click a tickable box to select an industry type.
  • Industry type selection is an additional cost option, at £0.01 per site remaining after filters have been applied.
  • Remember, the analysis itself is completely free, you will only be charged if you choose to license the data.

Company Type Help

  • Selecting one or more company types returns sites whose legal status matches those company types.
  • Click a tickable box to select a company type.
  • Company type selection is an additional cost option, at £0.01 per site remaining after filters have been applied.
  • Remember, the analysis itself is completely free, you will only be charged if you choose to license the data.

Company Size Help

  • Selecting one or more company sizes returns sites whose employee band matches those company sizes.
  • Click a tickable box to select a company size.
  • Company size selection is an additional cost option, at £0.01 per site remaining after filters have been applied.
  • Remember, the analysis itself is completely free, you will only be charged if you choose to license the data.

Contacts Help

  • Use the maximum number of contacts slider to limit the number of contacts per site.
  • Selecting one or more decision makers will return contacts whose decision making authority matches those selected.
  • Selecting one or more seniorities will return contacts whose seniority matches those selected.
  • Click a tickable box to select an option.
  • Selecting a decision maker type type will automatically change the number of contacts.
  • The most useful contacts are those who we identify as being the named person responsible for making the key decision to purchase for a particular function. It is for this reason our contacts are identified on a 'Decision Maker' basis - as a result you may see a variety of job titles shown within any selection result.
  • Adding contacts is an additional cost option, at £0.05 per contact remaining after filters have been applied.
  • Remember, the analysis itself is completely free, you will only be charged if you choose to license the data.

Contact Email Help

  • Use the tickable boxes and radio buttons to add email addresses to contact information.
  • This option will have no effect if no contacts are included in your analysis.
  • Select from personal email addresses only, or personal & generic:
    • Example generic email: info@somecompany.com
    • Example personal email: joanne.bloggs@somecompany.com
  • Select if contacts should have email addresses added if possible or should be excluded from the results if they do not.
  • Email addresses are an additional cost option, priced at £0.03 per email address added if personal and generic are selected, or £0.04 per email address added if only personal is selected.
  • Remember, the analysis itself is completely free, you will only be charged if you choose to license the data.

Options Help

  • Check one of the options and choose from the additional options available to add information to, or filter sites from your analysis result.
    • Tidy Company Addresses: Fix case of address text, strip bad characters, and format it in a human-friendly manner (Useful for direct mail marketing). This option will also remove duplicate companies from the results which may occasionally occur.
    • Add Web Addresses: Add company web addresses to the results.
    • Add telephone numbers: Add company telephone numbers to the results
    • TPS Record Treatment: Filter sites if they are registered on the telephone preference service. (Useful for telemarketing)
    • Building Management Treatment: Filter sites that are registered as building management companies.
    • Brassplate Record Treatment: Filter sites that are registered as brassplate companies.
    • Overseas Record Treatment: Filter sites that are outside the UK.
  • Select how the selection should be added or filtered:
    • Include where possible: Sites will not have this information included if we do not have it on file.
    • Must Include: If we do not have this information on file the site will be excluded from the result.
    • Flag: Add a flag to show if the site is of a particular type.
    • Exclude: Remove the site from the results if it is of a particular type.
  • These are additional cost options; the individual prices are displayed next to the selections.
  • Remember, the analysis itself is completely free, you will only be charged if you choose to license the data.

Dedupe Analyses Help

  • This screen displays previous analyses (see also your Previous Analyses page) that can be used to deduplicate your current analysis. This ensures that you won't license the same data twice.
  • Each analysis is displayed with its reference number and friendly name (if set).
  • Click the and icons show and hide analysis revisions.
  • Revisions are shown with some basic information. Click on a revision to obtain some more detailed information.
  • Click a tickable box to select a revision.
  • Clicking a tickable box next to an analysis reference will select all its revisions.
  • Data deduplication is currently a free option.

Dedupe Files Help

  • This screen displays your uploaded files from the Deduplicate Files page that can be used to deduplicate your current analysis. This ensures that you won't license the same data twice.
  • Each file is displayed with some basic information.
  • Files are ordered by date uploaded.
  • Click a tickable box to use the file for deduplication purposes.
  • Data deduplication is currently a free option.

Dedupe Downloads Help

  • This page displays previous orders (see also your Orders page) that can be used to deduplicate your current analysis. This ensures that you won't license the same data twice.
  • Each order is displayed with its reference number, friendly name and download number (if set) and number of records in that order.
  • Click 'view details' to see more detailed information about an order.
  • Click a tickable box to select an order for deduplication purposes.
  • Data deduplication is currently a free option.
